Domainnames
So what is a domainname
A domainname is a name of a collection of computers on a network such as the Internet. For most domains you have a mailserver, webserver, ftp server. But you can have other type of servers.
If we look at a webpage (URL) you will see that it's named forexample. www.needanewdomain.com.
The GLTD is com.
The subdomain is needanewdomain.
And last but not least the hostname is www.
So in order to get your domainname working you need the TLD (Top Level Domain), Subdomain (Which is the one that you acctually bought) and then the hostname.
If you type www.needanewdomain.com in your browser your browser will send www.needanewdomain.com to your DNS servers.
You dns servers will then try to find the ipnumber for www.needanewdomain.com.
After the ipnumber is discovered your browser will connect to the ipnumber and fetch the information on www.needanewdomain.com.
How does domainnames work
If we look at a domainname such as needanewdomain.com you will see that it contains ".com" and "needanewdomain".
What you acctually buy when you buy a domainname is acctually a "subdomain" of the TLD.
TLD stands for Top Level Domain.
But you will still buy a domainname.
